Born and raised in Moncton, New Brunswick, I am a self-taught painter who
began drawing and painting in my early childhood years. Out of high
school, I joined the Canadian Armed Forces while continuing to paint the
varied landscapes/flora of Canada. In 1995, I took the opportunity to
live in Colorado for six years where I began to paint full time, attend arts
related business classes, workshops, teaching watercolor classes, painting
murals and faux finishing walls.
My paintings, murals and wall finishes are found in numerous corporate and
private collections throughout North America and Europe. I am a member
of the North Grenville Art Guild (NGAG website www.northgrenvilleartsguild@groups.msn.com
), the Manotick Art Association (MAA website www.manotickart.ca
), the Ottawa Mixed Media Artists (OMMA website www.omma.cn
)and the Council
for the Arts in Ottawa (CAO). I presently
live and work from my studio in Oxford Station, Ontario, Canada.
Artist's Statement
My medium of interest has gone from pencil drawings to watercolor and in
the last few years I've focused on liquid acrylic paint (normally used for
spray painting, these paints are highly pigmented and are in liquid form),
acrylic mediums and ink on canvas. The transition from watercolor
to acrylic was seamless since the same techniques apply. Landscapes and
flora has been a consistent theme in my paintings throughout my lifetime so
far. My work has evolved from realism to a more organic romantic
construction of simple elements such as trees, water and flora. My
canvas is prepared with several coats of gesso with added mediums to build up
a textured painting surface. At this point, after wetting the canvas,
paint is poured, spattered, rubbed, etc. followed with something such as
acetate, sand, salt...sometimes all of these. Once dry, these shapes are
used to guide me toward the completion of the work. I enjoy working in
this state of mind where not every step of the painting is planned and
controlled.
